Philly Socialholic: 2018 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show: Wonders of Water

The time has come and the wait is over, the 2018 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, “Wonders of Water,” will celebrate the beauty and life-sustaining interplay of horticulture and water, on March 3 to 11, 2018, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. America’s leading floral and garden designers will create tropical jungles, temperate forests, native woodlands and arid landscapes, showcasing the astounding plants that thrive in each environment, from exquisite orchids and flowering vines to luminescent desert blooms. Guests will enter the show under a canopy of exotic flowers, and marvel at a modernistic, multi-level bamboo waterfall. An ever-shifting rain curtain will guide guests over a “suspended” rope bridge, and through a brilliant green rainforest. The Philadelphia Flower Show has been honored as the best event in the world by the International Festivals & Events Association, competing with events such as the Kentucky Derby Festival, Tournament of Roses Parade, Indianapolis 500 Festival, and other international celebrations. Tinsel

Midtown Village shines a bit more this season with the addition of TINSEL a Christmas themed pop-up bar presented by Teddy Sourias and Craft Concepts Group. This wonderland of Christmas crazy comes complete with a Krampus Room as well as a stocked-up bar of delicious seasonal cocktails and drafts. Tinsel will be open Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 2:00 p.m. to Midnight, and Sunday Noon to 5:00 p.m. Tinsel will offer happy hour specials Tuesday through Friday 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show

The Women’s Committee of the Philadelphia Museum of Art presents this annual juried Craft Show as a fundraiser for the Museum. Over the last 40 years more than $12 million in proceeds went to the Museum. The impact of the Show can be seen throughout the Museum with Craft Show funds used to purchase or support hundreds of items and improvements and renovations and programs including the Art Splash family program, and special exhibitions. The Show offers visitors the unique opportunity to speak with each of the 195 of the country’s finest craft artists, and to learn about and purchase their one-of-a-kind works, including: glass, baskets, jewelry, both wearable and decorative fiber, metal, paper, leather, furniture, ceramic, wood, and mixed media. SHOO FRY THANKSGIVING POUTINE FOR CHOP

Shoo Fry will be serving a Thanksgiving Poutine to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. All proceeds from the Thanksgiving Poutine will be donated to CHOP; The Thanksgiving Poutine special is $10 and features turkey, stuffing, cheese curds, gravy and cranberry sauce on your choice of sweet potato tots or classic tots or French fries. The Beaux Arts Ball 

The Beaux Arts Ball is a masquerade tradition stretching back to the middle ages in Italy and France, and possibly even older. Guests who attend the joyous festivities go all-out with black tie regalia, high fashion, and masquerade costumes. This year’s theme is: THE ART OF THE MASK.
On Friday, November 10, INVINCIBLE resurrects this epic gala, and they are opening their doors for an iconic evening or Art, Music, Food and Drink in benefit of Penn Radiation Oncology’s Quality of Life Program. Penn Medicine’s Department of Radiation Oncology is dedicated to providing patient-centered care by offering the most innovative and targeted cancer treatments in an environment that promotes an overall experience of healing. The Quality of Life Program, strengthens that mission by offering integrative therapies to improve an overall sense of health and wellness to patients and their caregivers. Further they will be supporting the Jack Brewer Foundation’s Hurricane Relief Efforts.

Artists from across the Philadelphia area will have works on exhibit with a portion of the proceeds going to the above-mentioned charities. The tradition of the Beaux Arts Ball holds that professions of architecture and law attend, but we invite all Philadelphians who appreciate the arts to join us in a melee of lavish costumes, dancing and brilliant conversation.

The Beaux Arts Ball feature live music courtesy of CTO Artists, late night DJ, complimentary bar, ariel performers from Flaunt Fitness and fine food provided by Raw, Enoteca Tredici and Zavino with more to be announced. The Habit Burger Grill Opens in Cherry Hill

Burger lovers in Philadelphia will have a new reason to celebrate as The Habit Burger Grill (Nasdaq: HABT) opens a new location this month. Following the success of their King of Prussia location, on Wednesday, October 11 at 10:30 a.m. the second Habit store in the Philadelphia region opened in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Thank You for Your Service Treats Veterans

Universal Pictures and AMC Theatres today announced that, on October 26, up to 10,000 free tickets will be presented to U.S. veterans and active-duty servicemembers for DreamWorks Pictures’ Thank You for Your Service—at more than 400 AMC locations nationwide.  Each of the first 25 servicemembers (per location) with valid, government-issued ID who request a ticket will be given one free admission to the 7:00 p.m. preview screening. The promotion will be available at all AMC Theatres playing Thank You for Your Service.  Free tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and may only be picked up at the AMC box office on October 26.  Each guest must present a valid government-issued military ID to receive their ticket, with a limit of one free ticket for each military ID presented, while supplies last.  This offer is valid for the 7:00 p.m. showing of the film on October 26, only.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s fall fundraising event, PHeaSt, moves outdoors this year for a delicious, moonlit celebration in the PHS Pop Up Garden at 15th and South Streets on Friday, October 6, from 7 to 10 p.m. The new “PHeaSt on South” will offer exciting dishes and drinks created by some of the city’s most talented chefs and mixologists, and live musical entertainment in the beautiful garden setting. The exclusive VIP experience at 6 p.m. will feature the mixologists of the Aqua Vitae Institute, who will teach guests how to conjure a unique love potion – a captivating cocktail that blends sour and sweet and a little bitter. The VIP experience also includes reserved seating and free valet parking. Featured restaurants at PHeaSt on South will be Cantina Dos Segundos, Royal Tavern, Triangle Tavern, Khyber Pass Pub, Garces Trading Co., Blackfish, Sojourn Philly (Rex 1516, Jet Wine Bar, Café Ynez), Square 1682, Red Owl Tavern, Melograno, Campbell’s Place, and The Night Kitchen Bakery.
