And this town is no different. We gave up multiple afternoons on the beach to watch the Dolphins win game after game to ultimately earn the AFC East title; cheered on actor and Miami Beach fixture Mickey Rourke as he won the Golden Globe for The Wrestler, and have clocked more than our fair share of time at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, which, with its Nov. 14 grand reopening, introduced the world to its $1 billion rebirth.
This week, the iconic hotel premiered official openings of two of its restaurants, Scarpetta and Gotham. Although the restaurants have been open for some time (Madonna is rumored to have dined at Scarpetta after her Miami concert), the hotel showcased the restaurant’s menu offerings, signature cocktails and hunky servers with two bashes this week. On Tuesday night, Miami movers and MOCA shakers, including Merle Weiss, Tommy and Michelle Pooch, Bonnie Clearwater, Valerie Ricordi, Yannick and Hadley Henriette, Erin Newberg and a few hundred others, partied at Scarpetta to promote POP Bollywood, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s upcoming fundraiser, which will take place on Feb. 28. With the Prosecco flowing, and musical performances by Argentinean flamenco guitar master Alex Fox, guests feasted on just about everything on the menu, working off the billion extra calories by dancing to Fox’s music.
Insider Tip: There’s a special perk for Florida residents at the Fontainebleau — the discounts in the Anticipation Package might come in handy after a long night of partying at LIV this Friday, when actress/Maxim cover girl Jaime King hosts the release of My Bloody Valentine 3D.
Another painstaking comeback we delighted in this season was that of Entourage heartthrob Vincent Chase, aka Adrian Grenier, who performed with his band, the Honey Brothers, at the grand opening of Las Olas steakhouse Bova Prime on Tuesday. Grenier thrilled adoring fans by playing the guitar, drums and even the recorder. Reports are circulating that Grenier, along with Anne Hathaway, Susan Sarandon, Marcia Cross, Tim Robbins, Seal, Ashley Judd, Jane Krakowski, Rachael Leigh Cook, Blair Underwood, Elvis Costello, Sting and directors Spike Lee and Ron Howard, will host the most star-studded party D.C. has seen in a decade, the unofficial inaugural ball, next Tuesday night.
Mall Safety Update
It seemed many of the South Beach fabulati were either at the slew of festivities preceding the Golden Globes or at Aspen Gay Ski Week, hosted by our very own Drag Diva, Elaine Lancaster. Talk about Brokeback Mountain on ice! Locally we did enjoy an A-list celeb-sighting in the form of King of Queens and I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry star Kevin James, who was at Sunset Place Thursday for the premiere of his new movie, Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Joining James on the red carpet was famed wrestler and TV personality Kimbo Slice. Both stars were really friendly, signing autographs and posing for photos. James introduced the movie and judged a competition in which fans raced to dress in security guard gear.
Up Past Their Bedtimes
It was a full house Monday night at B.E.D.’s Secret Society party. Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys hung out and enjoyed the music and scene. Surprising the crowd was an impromptu performance by Kevin Lyttle, who jumped on stage to render his popular “Turn Me On” while the crowd sang along. B.E.D. regular and Kansas City Chiefs player Larry Johnson shrugged off a hefty bill after ordering bottle service that included Grey Goose and Ace of Spades Blanc.
