New York Fashion Week spring/summer 2016 embraced new, at times unconventional, venues and eclectic designer collections as varied as the designers themselves, whose inspiration came from all parts of the globe.

Tommy Hilfiger recreated the Caribbean for his island-inspired show by transforming a bare NYC warehouse into an island oasis, complete with a beachside boardwalk that wound around an ankle-deep pool of water which models splashed through. A Tibetan monk stunned guests at the Hudson River Pier 26 in Tribeca, for Givenchy’s unforgettable runway show with the World Trade Center’s Freedom Tower as its backdrop on 9/11. The label commissioned artist Marina Abramovic to stage the dramatic show which paid tribute to those lost 14 years ago on that tragic day. Opening Ceremony put on a play, written by Spike Jonze and Jonah Hill, which starred Elle Fanning, Karlie Kloss, and Rashida Jones to showcase its spring looks and Marc Jacobs, never to be outdone, presented his “One Night Only” show in New York’s famed Ziegfeld Theater.

The more common trends included: white button-down shirts, among the most accessible and affordable trends for spring; skirts and dresses with high slits cut “up to there,” vibrant colors and island prints; 1970s styles; warm hues and common neutrals as well as monochromatic looks and lots and lots of stripes. While Miami Art Week is as much about the art of the party as it is about taking in one-of-a-kind works from around the world, this year, gale force winds and torrential rain added a new dimension of challenges for those artfully negotiating a month’s worth of activities and events into every day and evening for a week straight. In addition to Art Basel and it dozens of satellite fairs, several elegant events elevated Miami Art Week this year, providing opportunities for engaging discussions, networking, dining, cocktailing, celebrity sightings and, of course, dancing.

Clicquot Carnaval

The second-annual Clicquot Carnaval will be held on Saturday, February 20 at Miami’s beautiful Museum Park!

Veuve Clicquot is bringing the excitement of Rio de Janeiro’s Carnaval to Miami with a daytime champagne fête. Chinese New Year at Hakkasan

This Chinese New Year, Hakkasan at Fontainebleau Miami Beach will celebrate the Year of the Monkey with a limited edition menu created by International Executive Chef Ho Chee Boon alongside an exclusive cocktail and dessert. Hakkasan restaurants around the world will continue to honor the Chinese wishing tree tradition inspired by the Lam Tsuen Wishing Trees in Hong Kong. During this auspicious time, guests will be invited to share their hopes for the coming year by writing their wishes on gold ribbons and hanging them in the restaurant.  5^th Annual Wine, Women & Shoes

On Friday, February 5 join the  5^th Annual Wine, Women & Shoes presented by Sergio Rossi at the JW Marriott Marquis. This wonderful event  gathers more than 700 of South Florida’s most fashionable women to support the children and families at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Rock n’ Baga

The National YoungArts Backyard Ball

On Saturday, January 9, the National YoungArts Foundation kicks off its landmark 35th anniversary with the Backyard Ball, presented by Max Mara, and the signature after-party featuring music by DJ Cassidy. At 10PM, over 800 of Miami’s social and cultural enthusiasts will gather under the stars on the YoungArts Plaza (2100 Biscayne Boul., Miami) to celebrate the culmination of National YoungArts Week, which welcomes 170 of the country’s most promising young artists and honor director/actress Rosie Perez, director Robert Wilson and Tony-award nominee and YoungArts alumnus Tony Yazbeck.
