SO’s  11^th Grand Season Opening

The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) is proud to announce the beginning of the 28th season 2016/17, under the baton of Maestro Eduardo Marturet in his 11th Season, specially designed to enrich our community and give a variety of concerts with no precedent. Once again, Maestro Eduardo Marturet will demonstrate his talent and virtuosity to delight the most select audience. Grand Season Opening is the beginning of a fantastic season performed by the professionalism of the great orchestra that is MISO, including 7 concerts in Concert Halls, and 5 refreshing outdoor locations, and free admission for the delight of our residents. RAktoberfest

Always on the lookout to enhance its innovative menu, RA Sushi South Miami, has incorporated several local craft beers to its innovative menu, perfect to raise a glass and celebrate RAktoberfest with friends during Happy Hour. SPOOKY SYMPHONY FAMILY FEST

The Spooky Symphony   The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County is pleased to announce SPOOKY SYMPHONY as the opening performance for the 2016-2017 season of FAMILY FEST, the Center’s signature series of free family-friendly performances. The thrilling Halloween concert, co-presented by The Children’s Trust, will be performed by The Greater Miami Youth Symphony and the Alhambra Orchestra on Sunday, October 29 at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall.The spooky concert features enchanting scores accompanied by large-scale visuals from family favorites including Star Wars, World of Warcraft and King Kong, plus creepy classics such as Danse Macabre, Toccata and Fugue and Night on Bald Mountain. Audience members of all ages are encouraged to get in the holiday spirit by dressing in their favorite costumes! Admission to FAMILY FEST is FREE. However, First-Access Passes are required. First-Access Passes for the October 29 performances featuring SPOOKY SYMPHONY will be available beginning today. Miami Children’s Museum Not So Scary Family Halloween Bash

Once again the Miami Children’s Museum (MCM) is bringing Halloween’s most fun event to South Florida. It’s the fantastic Not So Scary Family Halloween Bash Sunday, October 16th from 1 to 6PM, 980 MacArthur Causeway on Watson Island. This event will be your child’s highlight of the costume season.  Your little goblins will trick or treat around the Museum’s galleries, brave the Haunted House, test their knowledge in the Mad Scientist Lab and create crazed crafts. Admission is just $50.00 per person. The Butcher Shop Arts & Kegs Series

The Butcher Shop is continuing its highly acclaimed Arts & Kegs series on Thursday, October 27th, 2016 with a special Halloween pumpkin painting edition! 25 pumpkins will be given out on a first come, first serve basis to locals, artists and visitors alike.  To participate, contestants must purchase a liter and The Butcher Shop will provide a pumpkin, paint and brushes. Once each work of art is completed, a photo of each pumpkin will be uploaded to a Facebook album on The Butcher Shop’s page and the two contestants with the most “likes” will win. MossRehab’s All About Art event is a juried exposition and sale open to professional artists with physical, cognitive, visual and hearing disabilities. Eligible media include works on paper, works on canvas or board, mixed media, sculpture, jewelry, photography and fine crafts. The 2016 show will run through November 4, 2016. All activities will take place at MossRehab’s Main Campus at Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park, 60 Township Line Road in Elkins Park.  The exhibit is free and open to the public daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Proceeds this year support the Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute whose mission includes theory-driven research to clinical treatments in neurorehabilitation, by transforming scientific insights into assessments and rehabilitation treatments for individuals disabled by neurologic injury or disease. Founded in 1992 by Drs. John Whyte and Myrna Schwartz, MRRI achieves great success securing federal grant funding and attracting individual philanthropy. Sunday, October 16, marks the fourth year for the Simon Says Run 5K. Runners and families are welcome from all around the Greater Philadelphia area.  It begins and ends at Victory Fields in Plymouth Meeting and is almost entirely on private roads. The race will be chip timed and awards will be given out to the fastest times in a variety of age groups. The Family Walk is a one-mile loop on a wooded trail and is perfect for people of all ages. The marquis event, the Chain of Survival Relay, pits teams from area schools against each other. They must complete a relay that incorporates the steps taken to save a life from sudden cardiac arrest.This year Simon’s Fund welcomes special guest speaker, Annie FitzPartick and Officer Jeff Sullivan. Earlier this year 19-year-old Annie suffered an episode of cardiac arrest in the parking lot of the Penn Valley Wawa. Annie had been misdiagnosed with a seizure disorder but what they learned that day was that she was actually suffering from an undiagnosed condition of Long QT Syndrome.  Officer Sullivan saved Annie’s life using the AED training he had received that morning.
