Common Threads

Common Threads, the non-profit organization dedicated to bringing health and wellness to children, families and communities through cooking and nutrition education, is headed to Miami to conclude its five cities, one-night-only, pop-up dinner. The Miami take-over will take place on Wednesday, November 29 at The Mondrian South Beach, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Each dinner in the series features a line-up of celebrated chefs from across the country and tasks them with creating dishes that reflect the evening’s theme. Kristi Krueger, Michelle Bernstein, Superintendent Alberto Carvalho and Chef Art Smith will play host to the Miami dinner bringing together an impressive list of chefs to create courses inspired by their favorite artist or work of art.

Additionally, the evening will include an opening reception with small bites prepared by Common Threads students, a silent auction featuring one-of-a-kind experiences and a special musical guest performance. All funds raised will benefit Common Threads programs, teaching children in underserved communities how to lead healthier lives. The Common Threads Chef Takeover Fueled by Circuit of The Americas will help fund the organization’s growth goal of getting one million children cooking for life by 2020. Maya’s Grill Celebrates 10 Years

Whimsy and Wishes at the Make-a-Wish Ball

It was a night of magic, music, mysticism and wish granting as the Make-A-Wish® Southern Florida and InterContinental® Miami celebrated the 23rd Annual InterContinental® Miami Make-A-Wish® Ball on Saturday, November 4, 2017. More than 900 guests attended the “Mystical Music Box” themed gala, which presented a night of enchantment, fantasy and music. The magical celebration was headlined by four time Grammy-award winning, multi-platinum-selling artist Lenny Kravitz, and presented by the Makarov Foundation and the Finker-Frenkel Legacy Foundation, with opening act by Alisan Porter, winner of NBC’s The Voice 2016who returned for the second year. 

Actress and filmmaker Gabrielle Anwar, who costars on the ABC drama “Once Upon a Time,” returned as celebrity emcee for the seventh consecutive year, helping the event to raise in excess of $2.3 million for Make-A-Wish® Southern Florida. Hosted by the InterContinental® Miami, Ball founder and in-kind donor for the past 23 years, the event was chaired by philanthropist Shareef Malnik, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Make-A-Wish® Southern Florida, who has served as Ball Chairman for the past 13 years. The Beaux Arts Ball 

The Beaux Arts Ball is a masquerade tradition stretching back to the middle ages in Italy and France, and possibly even older. Guests who attend the joyous festivities go all-out with black tie regalia, high fashion, and masquerade costumes. This year’s theme is: THE ART OF THE MASK.
On Friday, November 10, INVINCIBLE resurrects this epic gala, and they are opening their doors for an iconic evening or Art, Music, Food and Drink in benefit of Penn Radiation Oncology’s Quality of Life Program. Penn Medicine’s Department of Radiation Oncology is dedicated to providing patient-centered care by offering the most innovative and targeted cancer treatments in an environment that promotes an overall experience of healing. The Quality of Life Program, strengthens that mission by offering integrative therapies to improve an overall sense of health and wellness to patients and their caregivers. Further they will be supporting the Jack Brewer Foundation’s Hurricane Relief Efforts.

Artists from across the Philadelphia area will have works on exhibit with a portion of the proceeds going to the above-mentioned charities. The tradition of the Beaux Arts Ball holds that professions of architecture and law attend, but we invite all Philadelphians who appreciate the arts to join us in a melee of lavish costumes, dancing and brilliant conversation.

Nightmare on the Beach: The Dark CarnEvil

The Little Lighthouse Foundation hosts its eight (8th) Annual Halloween charity event, Nightmare on the Beach: The Dark CarnEvil (“NOTB2017”), on Friday, October 27 at South Beach’s Lummus Park. NOTB2017, South Florida’s premier Halloween charity event, will offer guests a unique outdoor nightclub experience where guests will join the Evil dwellers of the abandoned carnival to share the celebrations while raising money for South Florida children.  This event will also feature multiple themed pavilions and tents, costumed performers, deranged clowns and other amazing activations. All attendees will enjoy a top shelf open bar, including Tito’s Vodka, Camarena Tequila, Notorious Pink, Atlantico Rum, Jagermeister and Coppertail Beer with food tastings from some of Miami’s best restaurants and caterers. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens hosts the 31st Annual Halloween Sundowner, one of Miami’s most iconic events attracting 1,000 guests each Halloween. The allinclusive party takes place on Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 8:00 p.m. to midnight, and benefits the continued preservation of Vizcaya, a National Historic Landmark. This year’s event will feature a theme of Mystery, Myth and Fantasy.
