A historic Miami Beach space is stepping back into the spotlight. The Bass Museum of Art celebrates the reopening of The Rotunda on March 28, 2026, debuting it with a powerful and inclusive installation: Welcome Wall (2015–2026) by Pascale Marthine Tayou.
Originally built in 1962 as part of the Miami Beach Public Library, The Rotunda once served as a hub for community gatherings, lectures, and cultural exchange. Now reimagined as a dynamic entry point to the museum and Collins Park, the space returns to its roots—welcoming the public once again for connection, creativity, and shared experiences.
Marking this reopening, Welcome Wall transforms The Rotunda into an immersive celebration of global identity. The installation features over 200 LED signs spelling “welcome” in languages from around the world, many of them rare or underrepresented. As the glowing words wrap around the circular space, visitors are surrounded by a powerful reminder of Miami’s diversity—and the universal desire to belong.
The reopening coincides with The Bass’s Art Outside Annual Picnic, a free, family-friendly community event taking place on opening day. Guests can expect an afternoon of outdoor art experiences, live programming, and interactive activities designed for all ages—making it the perfect way to explore the newly reopened Rotunda while enjoying Miami Beach’s vibrant cultural scene.
Expanded through a global community call, the work reflects voices both local and international, reinforcing The Rotunda’s renewed role as a place of gathering and discovery.
Free and open to the public, both the installation and picnic invite everyone to take part—because at The Bass, art (and community) is for all. For general museum information, visit thebass.org. Follow on social media @thebassmoa.

Ocean Drive recently got a little louder — and a lot more flavorful. Michelle Bernstein and husband/hospitality partner David Martinez have officially opened La Cañita Miami Beach at 1200 Ocean Drive in the heart of the Art Deco District. The duo — also behind Miami favorites Café La Trova, Sra. Martínez and Sweet Liberty — bring their signature Cuban-Caribbean energy to South Beach. Already a hit at Bayside Marketplace and Kendall, the South Beach outpost turns up the volume with live Cuban music, vibrant interiors by Nicolette Bernstein, and a rum-forward bar that feels like a sun-drenched island escape.
La Cañita was born from the partners’ dreams of bringing together Cuban music, Cuban-Caribbean food and lifestyle, as well as a love and appreciation of rum culture. La Cañita means “little sugarcane,” the plant whose distillation creates the delicious spirit that La Cañita proudly features and the heart and soul of the restaurant. It’s an homage to the spirit that defines the bar program and the Caribbean lifestyle that inspires the menu. Drawing flavors from Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad, Haiti, Puerto Rico and beyond, the restaurant blends Bernstein’s award-winning cuisine with a lively, music-filled atmosphere that preserves Miami’s rich Latin-Caribbean influences.
Under Bernstein’s direction, La Cañita Miami Beach offers a dynamic and vibrant menu for lunch and dinner, including handhelds, snacks, Caribbean classics and South Florida signatures.
Croquetas from Heaven
Let’s begin with the Serrano ham croquetas- golden, crisp, impossibly creamy — easily the best in Miami. They’re the kind of bite that stops the table mid-conversation and makes you order another couple of rounds. The shrimp scampi croquetas are a close runner up. The menu travels through Caribbean classics, from conch fritters dusted in sweet cayenne to, empanadas, a wahoo fish dip, lechón asado with mojo and Michelle’s nostalgic arroz con pollo. It’s vibrant, supremely flavorful and unmistakably Miami.
Behind the 40-seat bar, more than 100 rums fuel mojitos in multiple variations and bold house cocktails, but the espresso martini quietly steals the spotlight — rich, frothy, and one of the best on Miami Beach.
The live, full- piece Cuban band is outstanding. Talented Cuban musicians turn dinner into a dance floor nightly, filling the room — and spilling onto the sidewalk — with irresistible rhythm. Grab a sidewalk table and you’ve got prime views of Miami Beach: palm trees swaying, turquoise waves, and Ocean Drive buzzing around you.
“In Miami, the islands aren’t offshore, they’re in our hearts, our kitchens, our rum glasses. Island heritage dining taught us that warmth isn’t just in the weather, it’s in the welcome. Every meal is an invitation to feel at home, no matter where you come from,” says Bernstein. “We are so excited to make our mark on Ocean Drive, the Art Deco icon of South Florida, and create a new home for both locals and visitors to the beach.”
It comes as no surprise that at this year’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival, Michelle Bernstein was honored at the Tribute Dinner, recognizing her trailblazing impact on Latin-inspired cuisine and her role as one of Miami’s most influential culinary voices, her legacy as a James Beard Award–winning chef and champion of South Florida’s culinary scene. The standing ovation underscored her lasting impact on the industry, her mentorship of rising talent, and her role in shaping the very spirit of SOBEWFF.
La Cañita Miami Beach is open Monday through Thursday and Sunday from noon to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from noon to 2 a.m. Daily happy hour runs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a reverse happy hour from 10 p.m. to midnight.

On Thursday, July 10, the future of luxury air travel in Miami took off in style as PS (formerly known as The Private Suite) broke ground on its highly anticipated new terminal at Miami International Airport (MIA). In true Miami fashion, the celebration was a chic, open house-style event with remarks from Amina Porter, CEO of PS; Ralph Cutié, Director & CEO of MIA; and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, among other civic leaders and partners.
PS MIA, slated to open in Spring 2026, marks a milestone as the first private terminal for commercial passengers at MIA, offering travelers an elevated, crowd-free alternative to the traditional airport experience—complete with TSA and customs clearance onsite. The new terminal is not just an expansion of PS’ signature luxury—it’s a restoration project, transforming the former Pan American Airways headquarters into a serene and opulent pre- and post-flight haven.
The forthcoming PS terminal is housed in a Miami-Dade County Historical Site, designated in 2014. The building—an icon of mid-century brutalist architecture—was once the beating heart of Pan Am’s global empire. Now, under the discerning eye of renowned interior designer Cliff Fong and the historic restoration team at RJ Heisenbottle Architects, the space is undergoing a thoughtful transformation.
Guests at the groundbreaking were treated to a first-look walkthrough of the design plans, which aim to honor the structure’s gold-paneling, reflecting pools, and original Pan Am logos. The refreshed space will artfully blend natural textures with rich tropical hues, capturing the essence of Miami’s vibrant energy with the refinement of PS’ signature ambiance.
Once open, PS MIA will provide guests with a truly private and peaceful airport experience—no lines, no crowds, no stress. Designed for those who value privacy and comfort as much as convenience, the terminal will feature:
Five Private Suites with dedicated security, customs, and TSA clearance
Two Salons with full-service dining and curated lounge experiences
An Outdoor Courtyard designed for a moment of calm under the Miami sun
A Day Spa offering massages and beauty treatments
Personalized service from PS Hosts who handle everything from check-in to tarmac transportation
Guests will arrive at PS via a private entrance and are seamlessly whisked from lounge to aircraft via BMW 7 Series sedans, bypassing the main terminal entirely.
The groundbreaking in Miami is part of PS’ growing footprint, which began at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and recently expanded to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)—with Paris marking its first international location at Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).
At PS LAX, Hollywood A-listers, business moguls, and luxury travelers regularly opt for the white-glove service that includes private suites with ensuite bathrooms, curated meals by renowned chefs, and full bar service—all steps away from their flight.
In Atlanta, the design reflects southern hospitality infused with PS’ elevated sensibility—think: handwoven textiles, custom lighting, and gourmet comfort food.
And in Paris, PS has partnered with Air France La Première to deliver a seamless, ultra-private terminal experience on European soil, offering their signature blend of discretion, design, and hospitality with a Parisian flair. Guests can expect full TSA and customs coordination, private suite service, and direct tarmac transport to their aircraft—just with a French twist.
Each location is uniquely tailored to its city’s character, yet maintains PS’ gold standard of travel luxury. With Miami joining the club in 2026, PS is solidifying itself as the definitive name in pre-flight indulgence for the modern jetsetter.
“Miami is a city that knows how to do things with style—and we are proud to bring a travel experience that matches that energy,” said PS CEO Amina Porter. “Restoring the iconic Pan Am building to usher in a new era of luxury and ease is a full-circle moment, and we can’t wait to welcome travelers to PS MIA.” “MIA is one of the most vibrant and dynamic airports in the world, and the addition of PS signals our commitment to meeting the needs of every type of traveler,” added Ralph Cutié, CEO of Miami International Airport.
Mayor Daniella Levine Cava echoed the sentiment, calling PS MIA “an exciting moment for Miami-Dade County’s continued leadership in travel, design, and hospitality.”
As travelers increasingly seek more personalized, elevated travel experiences, PS’ expansion comes at a perfect time—and in perfect Miami style. When it opens its doors in 2026, PS MIA will stand not just as a private terminal, but a love letter to the golden age of air travel—with all the comforts of modern luxury.

On the evening of April 29, the spirit of Miami shimmered a little brighter as Faena Art hosted its fifth annual Gala, Follow Your Rainbow—a phantasmagoric ode to the transformative power of art and color. Held poolside at the iconic Faena Miami Beach and masterfully helmed by hosts Alan and Grace Faena, the evening unfolded like a living canvas: vivid, immersive, and unapologetically audacious.
Guests made their entrance through a grand rainbow archway into a meticulously curated kaleidoscopic dreamscape, where the realms of art, fashion, music, and culinary excellence flowed seamlessly together.
The scene was cinematic, with every detail meticulously choreographed to entice the senses. A site-specific installation by acclaimed artist Joel Mesler anchored the atmosphere—his work pulsating with color and wit—while DJ Richie Hell delivered a pulse-quickening soundtrack to match. Models paraded through the crowd in bespoke, prismatic couture, blurring the lines between runway and performance art.
At the heart of the evening was an opulent culinary experience curated by Faena’s iconic collaborators: Argentine fire whisperer Chef Francis Mallmann and James Beard Award-winner Chef Paul Qui. Mallmann, true to form, held court over open flames in a mesmerizing ballet of smoke and heat, while Qui carved a massive bluefin tuna with the precision of a sculptor—live, amidst the gasps of delighted guests.
Bringing pure disco magic to the night, Rocky Lanes brought the house down with a powerhouse performance of crowd-favorite dance floor anthems. Not even a light drizzle could dampen the energy—guests twirled, grooved, and shimmered under the stars, fully surrendered to the rhythm.
Currently serving as the electrifying master of ceremonies for Faena Theatre’s dazzling new live production, RETRO: The Rhythm of the Decades, Rocky continues to prove she’s the reigning queen of throwback glamour. Read more about RETRO here.
The guests included Miami’s coolest creatives, a dazzling mix of cultural vanguard, art world luminaries, and global trendsetters. Joining hosts, Alan and Grace Faena were: Gianni and Leena Infantino, Jorge and Darlene Pérez, Len and Emily Blavatnik, Olivier Francois, Vita Sidorkina-Morabito, Mindy Solomon, Cathy Leff, Karen Grimson, Christina Pettersson, Beatriz Chachamovits, Magnus Sodamin, Kelly Breez, Anabella Bergero, Antonia Wright, Edison Peñafiel, Jill Hotchkiss, Manuel Ameztoy, and Danié Gómez Ortigoz.
Embracing the evening’s Follow Your Rainbow theme, guests adorned themselves in chromatic couture, turning the gala into a living spectrum. Faena Art crowned Francisca Oyhanarte—Miami-based artist and style savant—as the night’s best-dressed, awarding her a lavish two-night escape in the Faena Penthouse.
More than spectacle, the Gala reaffirmed Faena Art’s commitment to nurturing artistic innovation and expanding Miami’s cultural lexicon. Proceeds directly fund year-round programming, including experimental commissions, the Project Room exhibitions, and the prestigious Faena Prize for the Arts.
For those who couldn’t follow the rainbow in person, the dream lives on at faenaart.org.
