Amigos For Kids 25^th Annual Holiday Toy Drive

Amigos For Kids, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect, and Ford Motor Company Fund joined forces, once again, to share in the spirit of giving with the Amigos For Kids 25^th Annual Holiday Toy Drive. As the organization’s first major event in 1992, Amigos For Kids annual Holiday Toy Drive has grown into a gift-giving program that fulfills thousands of holiday wishes for underprivileged children.  For 25 years, the effort has brought the community together to create awareness about child abuse and neglect, and to spread Holiday cheer by collecting and distributing toys for needy children. The toy drive kicks off on Sunday, December 11 for a daylong caravan featuring Santa Claus, local celebrities, community leaders and volunteers making stops in Florida City and Little Havana.  In 2015, Santa’s community leaders and celebrity helpers included: Ana Maria Canseco, Ximena Cordoba, Andrea Escalona, Boris Izaguirre, Carmen Jara and Felipe Viel to name a few.  These celebrities, along with over 200 Amigos volunteers, participate as the organization grants Christmas wishes such as a visit to a police station, a heartfelt momentum of a loved one who has passed, tickets to sporting events, Christmas trees and much more as published in their website. After distributing toys to over 300 children in Florida City’s Branches of Love, the caravan continues to Jose Martí Park where 200 more kids will receive gifts.  Toy distribution will then continue in Broward on December 12, and throughout the rest of December ensuring all children receive their specific gifts and special requests before Christmas. The Annual Holiday Toy Drive serves as a component of Ford Motor Company Fund’s community relations program, “Operation Better World.”  Ford’s nine-year partnership with Amigos For Kids highlights its commitment to enhance educational opportunities, automotive safety, human services, and quality of life to the South Florida area. The enchanting winter wonderland and carnival at the corner of Bird Road and the Palmetto Expressway runs from November 3rd-January 8, 2017. 

Three million strings of lights are sparkling throughout the park, dozens of animated displays are lit and the scent of pine cones is in the air; it’s time for Santa’s Enchanted Forest, a South Florida tradition for 34 years! The golden gates open daily at 5pm and there’s non-stop action for the entire family. 

Santa’s Enchanted Forest is the world’s largest holiday themed park that features over 100 rides, games, shows and animated children displays. This year new at Santa’s the RC blaster, the sixth roller coaster. The RC blaster is the biggest and fastest roller coaster in Florida, also new a freestyle motorcycle stunt show. Visitors will be amazed as the stunt driver performs daring flips, hands free and soars 90ft into the air! 

Also featuring ten new food kiosks, Asian delights, crepes and other delicacies join old-time favorites like roasted corn on the cob, apple candy and elephant ears. The admission price includes all rides and featured shows! Parking is free.

Miami Art Week 

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for art collectors and enthusiasts; not to mention those who love a great party or ten- every night. What has become known as Miami Art Week, which runs from Thursday, December 1 through Sunday, December 4, includes Art Basel, one of the world’s most important art fairs, and dozens of satellite fairs, street art displays, performances, and something to see and do in just about every corner of Miami Beach, Wynwood, and the Miami Design District. Thefairs take place from December 1-4, unless otherwise noted.

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens will kick off its 100-year anniversary at its annual gala, which is the official Centennial Gala in 2016. This event will support fundraising for the iconic 1900s home of James Deering and ignite a year of Centennial activities.

Following the success of the first MISOCHIC from last year, dedicated to music and fashion, this season, The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO) under the baton of Maestro Eduardo Marturet, committed to diversity and cultural enrichment of the community, will bring back the most acclaimed concert of the year, a show where visual arts and live music are combined on stage. A visual feast with large video screens showing painting, sculpture, urban street art, live performances and over eighty musicians on stage with classical pieces such as Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, Strauss and the World Premiere of “Light” by composer Karen LeFrak inspired on the work of Sandra Muss and “Pictures for an Exhibition” composed by Eduardo Marturet and curated by Kathryn Mikesell. “Music and color will be combined as paint for the soul” Marturet said.MISOCHIC, will present works from the most important art collectors of South Florida making this mega spectacle  an appetizer for Art Basel. This year, MISOCHIC will benefit No More Tears Foundation, organization with a mission to assist and empower victims of human trafficking and domestic violence, Voices For Children Foundation which provides lifesavings and life-changing relief to children in need and The Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO).
