New World Symphony Gala 1000

New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy, will hold its premier Gala: 1000 on March 12, an evening that will be emceed by acclaimed actor Malcolm McDowell in honor of reaching 1,000 alumni. The event will be made even more special by the return of five alumni luminaries who have transformed the world of classical music. I wanted to pique your interest in including the black-tie affair.

Ticket holders will be treated to a unique live performance that unites past and current Fellows in celebration of the organization’s milestone achievement. They will be guided through the experience by the Master of Ceremonies, Malcolm McDowell, who was chosen because of the star’s connection to classical music. The Women of Tomorrow Mentor & Scholarship Program will host its annual gala taking place on Saturday, March 12, at the Mandarin Oriental, Miami. Founders Jennifer Valoppi and Don Browne, Gala Chair Marisa Toccin Lucas and Co-Vice President, Katherine Fernandez Rundle, celebrate 19 successful years of mentoring at-risk young girls. Gala honorees include Humanitarian Chairs Trish and Dan Bell; Legacy Builder Honorees Laurie and Tom Cunnington; Excellence Honoree, Baptist Health South Florida; and Mentor of the Year, Nancy Frehling. The black-tie event will raise funds to support Women of Tomorrow’s mentoring sessions, career-focused field trips, specialized college campus visits, and scholarships that enable at-risk young women to attend college. Jose Garces Guest Chef at Pat’s King of Steaks

On March 14, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Chef Jose Garces will be a guest chef at Pat’s King of Steaks! South Florida’s culinary scene is as multicultural as its residents and visitors. Over the past several years, the ethnic food that forms part of daily life in Miami—the Cuban ventanita, Chinese takeout, the rare but occa­sional Jewish deli, neighborhood Italian joint—has risen to a new and exciting level. Every day, restaurateurs and chefs are making new strides with remarkable entries into the market. While this proliferation reflects the evolution of South Florida’s multicultural population, it is also the result of experimental diners who are seeking an elevated dining experience, beyond a traditional, authen­tic cultural meal.

“There has never been a better time to be a food lover in South Florida,” Larry Carrino, president of Brustman Carrino Public Relations, proudly avers. “For food enthusiasts, it’s a great time to be here—we have everything at our fingertips.” Carrino explains that twenty years ago, before culture and media (which are inextri­cably linked) influenced the food scene in Miami, his former busi­ness partner, Susan Brustman, would joke about having to go home to New York to get a good meal.
