While Miami Art Week is as much about the art of the party as it is about taking in one-of-a-kind works from around the world, this year, gale force winds and torrential rain added a new dimension of challenges for those artfully negotiating a month’s worth of activities and events into every day and evening for a week straight. In addition to Art Basel and it dozens of satellite fairs, several elegant events elevated Miami Art Week this year, providing opportunities for engaging discussions, networking, dining, cocktailing, celebrity sightings and, of course, dancing.

Eva Longoria and Ricky Martin Host Global Gift Initiative

Later that evening Eva Longoria and Ricky Martin served as Honorary Co-Chairs for the Global Gift Foundation’s first event in the United States at The Related Group’s Auberge Residences & Spa Miami. The glamorous event featured a cocktail reception, dinner by Le Basque and wines by Rioja, special performances by Carlos De Antonis, Mayte Valdes, Carlos Barrionuevo, Manel Gutierrez, Andres Vadin, Jose Cortes and music by DJ Sub Zero.

Both Longoria and Martin spoke passionately about their foundations. The Eva Longoria Foundation provides education and entrepreneurship opportunities to women. The Ricky Martin Foundation works toward ending human trafficking by advocating for the well-being of children around the globe and creating centers for them. Because the torrential rain kept the auctioneer away, Eva Longoria herself conducted the live auction featuring one-of-a-kind items such as an incredible art piece by Brainwash, a timepiece by the makers of Swiss Luxury Watches Hublot worn by Ricky Martin, art piece by Agustina Casas and a piece from Domingo Zapata’s Panda series, other items included jewelry provided by Messika. Lili Estefan from ‘El Gordo y La Flaca’ and TV host and comedian Michael Yo co-hosted the evening.

Notable guests included, Telenovela stars Amaury Nolasco and Jencarlos Canela, top-model Esther Cañadas, the moniker of street pop art Brainwash, US State Treasurer Rosa Gumataotao Rios, Loren and JR Ridinger, Spanish Trade commissioner Inmaculada Gutiérrez, NBA Alumni Scottie Pippen and wife Larsa Pippen, designer Ricardo Barroso, Eva Hughes and Global Gift Ambassador Esther Porto.

This sold-out event raising over $200,000 in support of The Eva Longoria and Ricky Martin foundations and for the Global Gift Foundation USA – whose simple mission is to create positive change in the development, welfare, health and social inclusion of society’s most vulnerable.

“I was absolutely thrilled to be the Honorary Co-Chair with Ricky Martin at the first North American Global Gift Foundation USA event.” said Eva Longoria. “I am a firm believer in using my voice to inspire others to make a difference. True and lasting change comes when each and every one of us makes a decision to help those less fortunate than ourselves. This is why I dedicate my time and efforts to the Global Gift Foundation and the numerous foundations it supports.”

Among the most anticipated events during Miami Art Week was the blow-out bash at JR and Loren Ridingers’ incredible, waterfront estate on Miami Beach, which closed out the week in style. Stylish guests, none the worse for wear despite a long week of rainstorms and art events, danced until morning under the stars to music by DJ Cassidy, and special performances by Fat Joe, Omarion and Maxwell, while indulging in Tequila Herradura cocktails and Perrier-Jouet champagne. In addition, Aston Martin showcased the track-only supercar, the Vulcan and the Lagonda “the finest of fast cars.”

The highlight of the evening was RETNA’s exclusive unveiling of his newest works, for which the artist employs different mediums on stainless steel mirrors and sculptures. Some of his canvas works include diamond dust, while others are matte, making each piece unique with his signature hieroglyphics encoded within the text.
