The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® 

PrintOn Saturday, October 18, from 6:00 a.m. to 11 a.m., The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® will celebrate its 19th anniversary in Miami. Each year, the local Affiliate invites supporters, survivors and those in need to join them in a day of celebration. Last year, the event welcomed 16,000 in attendance and raised $1.325 million. Susan G. Komen® Miami/Ft. Lauderdale is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Seventy-five percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for uninsured, medically underserved women in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. The remaining twenty-five percent supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world. NINE at Mary Brickell Village and Brickell Magazine have teamed up to host a poolside BBQ in support of the fight against women’s cancers on October 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Guests will meet at Grand Bay Beach Club, NINE’s private beach on Key Biscayne, for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and more. Ortanique on the Mile: Cooking with Chef Cindy Hutson

Ortanique on the Mile will be hosting its month cooking class on Saturday, October 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to learn the secrets behind Chef Cindy Hutson’ Cuisine of the Sun. Participants will get a chance to play chef as they learn how to prepare Cindy’s signature dishes: Loaded Baked Potato Bisque with Vande Rose Farms Bacon Lardoons and Cabot Clothbound Cheddar in Russet Cups; Cumin-and Coriander-Dusted Mahi-Mahi with Eggplant and Vine Ripe Tomato Sauté Slivered Garlic and Sambal Pepper Sauce; and Drunken Banana Fritters with Cinnamon Ice Cream. Each course will be complimented with champagne or wine. Guests will also be treated to a sneak peek into Cindy’s first cook book, expected to release in February 2015. The Early Development of Global Education (EDGE) Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, invites the South Florida community to their second annual Casino Night. The Hispanic Police Officers Association of Miami-Dade (HPOA) is the presenting sponsor of “A Night in Casablanca.” The themed event will be held on Saturday, October 18, at 7:00 p.m., at The Fairways on the Key – Crandon Park Golf Course. As of today, The EDGE Charitable Foundation has helped more than 20,000 children in the United States, Haiti, Jamaica, Kenya, Guatemala, India, Madagascar, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. The organization raises funds to benefit children who are homeless, unaccompanied, and victims of human trafficking, domestic violence or victimized in any other way. The Casino Night’s lounge-style setting promises to become the EDGE Charitable Foundation’s humanitarian event of the year. CBS4 Miami reporter, MaryAnn Martinez, will be the Master of Ceremonies for this year’s gala which attracts a vibrant group of local business executives, community leaders and local celebrities. The evening will also feature two special celebrity guest hosts, Marysol Patton and Alexia Echevarria stars of Bravo Network’s hit reality show “Real Housewives of Miami”. On Thursday, October 23, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Miami Women Who Rock (MWWR), a network of women and businesses that believe in giving back to the community by supporting health-related causes and initiatives, will host the inaugural “Fifty Shades of Pink” Awards Luncheon at the Coral Gables Country Club to honor 10 exceptional and diverse women for their strength, resilience, heart, compassion and commitment to their families and the Miami community. A portion of proceeds from the event will benefit The Women’s Breast Health Initiative, Florida Affiliate, an outreach organization that connects at-risk women with the early detection necessary to fight breast cancer and heart disease, and which was founded by one of MWWR’s 2014 notable honorees, Andrea Ivory. Miami Women Who Rock’s 2014 award recipients to be honored at the “Fifty Shades of Pink” Awards Luncheon include: Josie Romano Brown, Sofia Victoria de la Peña, Myrna Holbrook, Andrea Ivory, Irene Korge, Emily Marquez-Dulin, Phillis Oeters, Audrey S.
