20th Annual Blacks’ Annual Gala

The Miami Children’s Health Foundation Annual Diamond Ball diamond

On Saturday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m., Miami Children’s Health Foundation will host its annual Diamond Ball and will honor internationally renowned pop artist Romero Britto. YoungArts Launches Outside the BoxOTB_homepage

On October 25, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., the National YoungArts Foundation(YoungArts) will launch Outside the Box, a new series that will feature free performances by YoungArts alumni, including GRAMMY Award-nominated musician Dave Eggar (1987 Winner in Music and U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts). Better Days Pop Up Bar Celebrates 30 More Days

Better Days, the independent boutique bar brand launched in August 2014 as the single vision of its creators, Challo Schott and owner Jeronimo Hirschfeld will extend its stay for another 30 days.  Due to the overwhelming response from Miami, Better Days has been able to extend the pop up and will be celebrating with a week of exciting events starting Halloween Weekend. Assembled by Dr. Albert C. Barnes between 1912 and 1951, the Barnes collection is renowned as one of the finest holdings of Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings in the world. The collection also includes important examples of African sculpture, early twentieth-century American painting, Pennsylvania German decorative arts, Native American ceramics, old master paintings, as well as metalwork, jewelry, textiles, and antiquities.

Among its major holdings are: 181 works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (the largest single group of the artist’s paintings); 69 works by Paul Cézanne; important paintings by Vincent Van Gogh and Georges Seurat; 59 works by Henri Matisse; 46 works by Pablo Picasso; 16 works by Amedeo Modigliani; 125 African sculptures, masks and tools.

Not To Be Missed: William Glackens
November 8, 2014–February 2, 2015

A Philadelphia native, Glackens (1870–1938) studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. There, and as an artist for the Philadelphia Press, he became friends with Robert Henri, George Luks, Everett Shinn, and John Sloan, the core of the group that later formed “The Eight” in reaction to the National Academy of Design’s hidebound exhibition policies. Miami International Film Festival Presents MIFFecito

Miami International Film Festival (MiamiFF), a program of Miami Dade College’s MDCulture, will be giving Miami an early “taste” of the Festival this year with MIFFecito, a film festival of international films from countries including Bhutan, Cuba, Italy, Mexico, Poland and Spain. For the entire month of October, Mignonette will be lending an oyster shucker to help raise funds for breast cancer research in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  The new Edgewater oyster bar is adding a special oyster to its eclectic menu, coined the “Danny’s Mom” oyster. For this fundraising effort, Mignonette teamed up with American Mussel Harvesters, who agreed to rename their beloved Umami oysters that they ship to Mignonette as “Danny’s Mom” oysters throughout October.    For every “Danny’s Mom” sold, Mignonette will donate $1 to the Braman Family Breast Cancer Institute at University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center to help fund breast cancer research.

 

Miami Seaquarium Goes Pink for Breast Cancer

Miami Seaquarium will go pink this October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as it welcomes its guests with the opportunity to make a $5 contribution to the Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft.
