The week leading up to New Year’s Eve was so packed with celeb-filled events and celebrations that it made going out on the big night seem almost like overkill. From a penthouse party which included Beacher’s Madhouse Oompa Loompas which packed into a party bus to LIV;to the official grand opening of Lords South Beach Hotel, which was so packed that it seemed the penthouse terrace was going to go the way of the elevator from the Tower of Terror; to LeBron James’ star-studded birthday bash, South Beach got an electric awakening from its post-Basel slumber and bid adieu to 2010 in its typical mayhem and style.

Oh Lordy

Tinsley Mortimer, Richie Rich, Tracy Young and Lady Bunny hosted the coming out bash for Lords South Beach on Wednesday night. Lords is the nation’s first gay boutique hotel brand.  In honor of the celebration, founder Brian Gorman kicked off the evening with a private cocktail reception at the hotel where he was joined by Elaine Lancaster and Miami Beach Vice Mayor Michael Gongora on the front porch for a ribbon-cutting ceremony. DJs and performances throughout the 54-room property kept the party going until early morning, including a serenade by Justin Bond atop the gold bar; celebrity DJ, Tracy Young spinning for the VIPs in the penthouse, and Lady Bunny’s dance floor take-over, where Rich and Mortimer were joined by Elaine Lancaster, Gorman, and Mortimer’s boyfriend, Brian Mazza. Rich had such a great time he stayed in Miami for the hotel’s House of Lords New Year’s Eve celebration on Friday.  On the same night, David Arquette hosted Beacher’s Madhouse at LIV.

Happy Birthday LeBron!

On Thursday night, the eve of New Year’s Eve, STK at the Gansevoort was quite the scene, as LeBron JamesALTA_IMAGES_0058 celebrated his 26 birthday with a huge bash, the first of several celebrations planned throughout the country. James sat at an oversized table near the back bar of STK enjoying an “intimate” dinner alongside a few hundred of his closest friends.  James’ guests included: Dwyane Wade, Gabrielle Union, Spike Lee, Michael Bay, Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Tyrese Gibson, Dave Chappelle, Drake, Al Reynolds, (newly engaged) Vivica Fox, Kelly Rowland, Timbaland, Michael Yo, Juwan Howard, Jerry Stackhouse, Joel Anthony and Jaleel White.  At about 1:00 a.m. the party spilled into Coco De Ville next door, where Spike Lee was spotted dancing up a storm and sharing a table with mega-producer Timbaland and his wife. At one point, Drake headed into the DJ booth to give a birthday shout-out to James, who eventually joined Drake and Tyrese in the DJ booth.  Drake began playing “All I Do is Win” and Timbaland jumped on the mic and began singing to the track.  With the exception of his foray into the DJ booth, James’ demeanor was low key.  He spent much of the night chatting it up with his mother Gloria James and girlfriend Savannah Brinson.

New Year’s Rockin’ Eve

Hennessy and Belvedere sponsored some major star power on NYE, bringing in Oscar winner Jamie Foxx to LIV, featuring a live performance by Kaskade; Nicki Minaj to Mansion and Trey Songz to Lux.  Keri Hilson and Amber Rose brought the fun to Dream and Usher and Megan Goode quenched their thirst with Hennessy at Play.

At the W South Beach Grammy-nominated platinum recording artist, Drake, counted down to 2011 at WET. Drake moved the festivities into WALL, shortly after midnight, where fellow revelers including Kelly Rowland, Serena Williams, Jessica White, Vivica A. Fox, LeBron James, Bell Biv Devoe, Erin Cole,Jared Evan, Al Reynolds, Angela Simmons, Chris Nunez and Gucci Mane got down to music by New York-based DJs 4AM, and Phresh, and our personal favorite, DJ Irie.

Other celebs ringing in the New Year included: DJ Fat Boy Slim at Arkadia, Kourtney Kardashian, and long time beau Scott Disick, at the Gansevoort rooftop and Sasha Grey at the Catalina Hotel.

Members of the uber exclusive Soho Beach House heralded in 2011 amid a tornado of confetti shot off by a canon on the rooftop (think Times Square minus the cold, crowds and pickpockets).  The stylish Black and White Ball played host to Miami’s trendiest jetsetters and included everything from a live Latin band in the Drawing room, to various types of music throughout the expansive property to Johnny the Boy playing favorite 80s tracks on the 8th floor.
