Who Let the Dogs Out?

Dwyane WadeOK, so it may have seemed as though Miami was in the doghouse with regard to celebrities last weekend thanks to the Super Bowl mayhem a few miles west, but the doghouse was just the place to be on Friday night, for Pawpurrazzi, the annual fundraiser for the Humane Society that was held at Jungle Island, showing that socialites and VIPs love few things more than their dogs. Designer Rene Ruiz and pooch Dexter Rosenblatt wore matching red and black outfits. Dexter’s was emblazoned with the label “Rene” in rhinestones. Dogs walked the catwalk in the “Great Pets Who Walk in Front of Great People” show. I mean, have you ever?!?! Strutting their stuff on the runway behind their pups were philanthropists and community leaders including Pat and Milton Wallace; Charles and Fannie Dascal of South Motors, with celebrity spokes-dog, Luky; CBS 4’s Lisa Petrillo; UM President Donna Shalala; Alan Potamkin; D.J. and Steven Kerr; Frederic Brandt, Bunny Bastian, Tova Leidesdorf, Marisa Cisneros-Rizzon, Marcos Rizzon and Kirk Landon. Besides the obvious, some of the highlights of Pawpurrazzi included watching these heavy hitters let their guards down and baby-talk to their dogs (even posing for the caricature artist to sketch their pictures with their furry friends); observing just how much dogs really do resemble their owners; and realizing that dogs will be dogs, as several pooches marked their territory all over the fancy couches that were set up along the ballroom. I’ll stand, thank you!

Musical Legends Old and New

A few musicians were in town on Friday night performing for the three or four folks who didn’t make the four-hour trip to Tampa. The eloquent, very sexy, Grammy-nominated John Legend hostedMansion’s We Rock Hip-Hop party, after his concert at the Fillmore. Legend hung out next to the stage with his girlfriend, supermodel Chrissy Teigen, and a few close friends. At one point, Legend stood up and gave a shout out to the crowd, who went nuts, of course.

At SETBritish one-hit wonder Estelle got her groove on atop the DJ booth, belting out “American Boy,” the song that gets everybody singing and jumping on the couches regardless of what time it’s played.

Raspy rocker Rod Stewart performed at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and brought the house down, AARP card in tow! We heard that even after three decades, a whole crowd of people still “think he’s sexy.” Really.

Destination Fashion on the Horizon

Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones added some Hollywood star power to the Shops of Bal Harbour Tuesday night when he hosted a kick-off cocktail for the upcoming Destination Fashion bash to be held on March 7 to benefit the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. Jones was joined by his wife, Dawn Jones, NFL legend Nick Buoniconti and son Marc Buoniconti.

This year’s Destination Fashion promises to flex its celebrity muscle more than ever with a lineup of scenesters and performers including multi-platinum recording artist and three-time Grammy winner SEAL as musical headliner, along with fellow Grammy winners The Pointer Sisters, who will also perform. American designer and PETA nemesis Michael Kors will also attend to showcase his fall collection. Any of you who have attended any of Kors’ New York shows can attest that this alone should create some fireworks. WARNING: Wearing a fur or anything that looks like fur can and will cause paint to be hurled at you.

Happy Birthday Dwyane!

On Sunday, Feb. 8, Dwyane Wade will celebrate his birthday with a blowout at LIV at the Fontainebleau. As expected, local favorite Miami Heat DJ, Irie, will spin, and a bevy of basketball greats will be on hand to party on with Dwyane. Will Wade be joined by actress Gabrielle Union, with whom he’s been seen all over town? Stay tuned.
